If you never propose using your Blue Feather, you will be prompted to pick a spouse at the end of the year. Choosing Gustafa as the person who's waiting for you will prompt him to propose to you instead. After this event, you will automatically segue into the marriage and wedding which will bring you into Chapter 2.
