This video covers how to use phase diagrams in igneous petrology. Phase diagrams illustrate the composition of solids (minerals) that coexist with liquids in terms of temperature. Phase diagrams are useful for predicting the minerals that will crystallize from a melt at a given temperature, as well as the composition of the melt that will form from melting certain minerals at a given temperature.
