Djokovic Strategy Coach from 2017 to 2019, Craig O'Shannessy, divides the baseline into 4 areas (A, B, C & D). He also divides the game into Swords (forehands) and Shields (backhands). In the heatmap you'll notice why. Forehands are hit from everywhere on the court - that's because it's a weapon of mass destruction that is also easier to diguise. (note: a backhand heatmap would show almost all shots hit from D). The second thing to notice is the where most of forehands are hit from. Position C. As a general rule players will (& should) run around their backhands. Imagine two pros trading inside out forehands from C. It's common early in the point until someone senses an oppportunity. It's why Craig calls tennis a C to C sport. In this clip he goes on to explain that when you're teaching technique it's best taught in contect. Combine technique and tactics. Set them up in position C so they can see exactly what the caught looks like from there. In his words: Put the TopspinPro in C.
