I am filming a feature film with the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 6k (BMPCC6k) in July and August and wanted to see which compression setting to use: Constant Quality or Constant Bitrate and which of those as well.
I searched the internet and a lot of videos tried this but used scenes with almost no, or very little, movement. I wanted to see each setting faced with a massive amount of data, like confetti thrown into the air, and see if the codec broke down. Then a snow storm hit. Perfect.
Braw shot at full 6k - 23.976 - 1/50 shutter - 400iso - Q0, Q5, 3:1, 5:1, 8:1, 12:1
Each is show full res and then at 400% zoom. After that, all are compared simultaneously at 400% zoom.
Can you see noticeable differences? Q0 and 3:1 should look the best on paper when handling this amount of data stress. Do they? and if they do, is the difference worth the data size tradeoff?
