You may have heard lately that there has been a lot of debate over turntable dust covers.  It seems opinions are mixed as to whether the dust cover should stay up or be placed down while you are playing a record.

I honestly never thought much about this.  Since I was a kid, I always tend to leave the dust cover down when I am not using my turntable.  But when I am playing records, I tend to leave the dust cover up.  That is simply what I have always done, and still do to this day.

So, why do people suggest that you should leave the cover up while you are playing records?  I go over this in the video.  If you are curious why some people feel you should leave the dust cover up, watch the video to find out why.

I certainly understand the importance of dust covers, and why they serve a very important purpose.  I can see why leaving it down during long periods when you are not playing records does make sense.  That way, you keep dust from accumulating on the various components of your turntable.  And this dust, no matter how small, can really wreak havoc to your turntable, especially the stylus.

So, what do you do?  Do you leave the cover up while playing records?  Or do you put it down?  What are your typical turntable habits?  And what is your favorite turntable?  Feel free to leave a comment!
