America Used to Think Bat People Lived on the Moon

In the mid-1800s, a newspaper scandal led thousands of people to falsely believe in a full-blown ecosystem nestled comfortably on the moon's surface. From one-horned bison to tiny giraffes, and even an intelligent group of bat-like humans were believed to live up there.
