Calculating ATR (average true range) and using it as a stop loss. You may be familiar with ATR. What is true range? True range is generally the high minus the low, however this is going to be different if your close falls outside of that high minus the low because it takes into account any percentage gap or how close was away also. This is mostly relevant for swing traders. How would we use that as traders? When trading we want to know how much volatile the instrument is and how wide our stops have to be. Maybe we don't want to trade something that is too volatile or too quiet - all sorts of reasons. But let's talk about stop placements
