I sent my poop in the mail to test whether fermented foods are good for my gut health. All that kombucha, kefir, and kimchi boosted my microbiome diversity, reduced inflammation, and SHOCKINGLY lowered my biological age.

We’re bombarded with health claims around fermented foods and gut health, but is there science to back it up? I ran an n of one experiment where I ate six servings of fermented foods a day for ten weeks, and tested my microbiome and blood before and after. Yup, I sent poop in the mail to Viome. That was ten weeks of kimchi, kombucha, kefir, yogurt, and so many fermented veggies. Most was super delicious, but this water kefir tasted like vomit. My fermented food diet increased the diversity of my gut microbiome and reduced inflammation, both indicators of health benefits and similar to the results of this study from Stanford. I was the most shocked to find that my biological age lowered by five years. Can fermented foods turn back time? We’ll need a few more guinea pigs to make conclusions about that. That’s what science tastes like. Check out my full experiment video!
