NERD ALERT: Bringing a $300,000 server from 2007 back to life, and hot swapping RAM in Solaris.

The initial restoration and testing
The initial restoration and testing of my Sun Microsystems SunFire E2900, a server that had a retail price well over $300K in 2007! In this video I use the lower wattage power supplies to bring up the system on Solaris 10 I prepared for the system. This old machine was used for a short time in production and then used as an end table. Now we find out if we can get it back into good working order!
I had to do some firmware password reset hacking to get into the firmware, which I didn't show in this video. Solaris did report a bad a RAM stick which I hot swapped with a neighbor to see if I actually needed to replace it.
System Configuration:
- 12x Dual Core UltraSPARC IV+ Processors @ 1.5GHz
- 96x 1GB RAM Sticks, 96GB RAM.
- 2x 72GB U320 SCA SCSI Hard disks
- Solaris 10 UNIX Operating System
