How to Fix a Wobbly Ceiling Fan

We can safely say it's the one thing that drives all of us crazy - a wobbling ceiling fan that's hard on both the eyes and the ears, but it's certainly easy to fix. To stop a fan from wobbling, first check and make sure that all the blades are tight. If that's not the problem, then you're gonna have to balance it. Most fans come with a weight. If you don't have one you can get one at the lighting store, fan store or home center. You put it on the blade on the trailing edge, which means the back edge of the blade. Since this fan turns this way, this is the back edge. You put it about half-way down the length of the blade and then you turn the fan on and watch it spin to see if that balanced it out. Once you find the problem, pull the weight off and put on a fan weight. They come with your fan or you can get them at a home center or lighting store. And you just have adhesive on there and it sticks to the back of the blade. Don't even tape up a dime or a penny. A lot of people try to do that, but it dries out the tape as the fan spins and all of a sudden that penny goes shooting off at 60 miles an hour, blows up a dish in your china cabinet and you don't know why till you start cleaning up the pieces and find the little penny.
