For today's video, we've got a beautiful OEM system. It's an ASUS ROG G20AJ with an Intel Core i7 4790, 12GB of DDR3 dual-channel RAM, and an NVIDIA GTX 970 with 4GB of VRAM. Storage-wise, we've got a 64GB SSD as the system drive and a 1TB HDD for the games. This system is from late 2014, so it has already been some years on the hump. In this video, we're going to find out if this system is any good for gaming in 2022. Therefore, I was testing 22 of today's most-played titles.  But let's begin with the ASUS ROG G20 itself. It's a pretty compact OEM gaming device. But nevertheless, it's possible to use full-size GPUs like the GTX970. It's very nice to not be restricted to mobile GPUs. Furthermore, the build quality has been really good. The case looks, IMHO, pretty stylish and would probably fit perfectly well on every desk. Overall, it's a very nice-looking system, and at first glance, you'd never guess it's from 2014. When I first saw it, I was thinking that it could have been released in 2022. Also, the fan management left a very good impression. You can barely hear the system in idle mode. Even while gaming, the fans aren't running at that high of a level. The fans are only noticeable in some heavy tasks. But even then, they only turn on noticeably for a couple of seconds. Also, the temperature while gaming stayed within a very good range and didn't exceed 75°C GPU wise. It's also pretty easy to change the built-in hardware. The previous owner of this system upgraded the RAM from 8 to 12 GB, and let's be honest, I know he's a good guy, but he's far from being a hardware genius. Changing RAM, the GPU, or the built-in SSD or HDD should be easy for everyone. So yes, casewise, we can already say that ASUS did a pretty solid job back then. But what about the CPU? Long story short, an Intel Core i7-4790 is still more than sufficient for all current applications in the gaming segment. In all of the 22 games, the CPU hasn't struggled at all. 60+FPS is still possible in every title, even in the most demanding ones like Cyberpunk 2077. For example, if paired with an RTX 2080, more than 60 fps would be possible easily. So I can still recommend the Core i7 4th Gen for gaming in 2022. If you aim for a high-refresh-rate gaming experience like 144fps+, you should choose a more modern CPU like a Ryzen 7 5800X, for example.  But what about the GTX 970? Also, this one did a solid job. Obviously, in most games, the GPU has been a bottleneck for the i7 4790, but that's not that much of a problem because the GTX 970 is still able to run any modern title at an adequate gaming experience. You can even run Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p medium settings at around 30 FPS. That's still a stunning result for this nearly 8-year old GPU. It has got full driver support from NVIDIA right now. Hopefully, this will persist at least for another 1 or 2 years. One thing to mention is the 4GB of VRAM. Only 3.5GB is at 196GB/s (224bit) and 512MB is at 28GB/s (32bit). So, theoretically, using more than 3.5GB of VRAM should slow down your gaming experience. In my tests, I didn't see that much of an impact on the performance. But this is still something to keep in mind.  However, the GTX 970 is sold for around 120 euros in my country. Regarding this low price and the good performance, I can only recommend this GPU for gaming in 2022 if you're on a tight budget. Imho, there's barely a better alternative product on the market. Perhaps the Radeon R9 280X in terms of pure performance, but this one lost driver support a few months
