The California Quail can have
The California Quail can have up to 12 chicks at a time. Fresh, small, and curious, they wander around exploring their surroundings.
This dad has had a bit too much of their fun. Maybe he's a bit nervous about how exposed they are. He aggressively forces them back into the cover of the grass, making sure that they are nice and safe.
Yes, yes, I know. They're an introduced species to New Zealand. I shouldn't be glorifying introduced species. But introduced species are still wildlife, they still live their own lives, and they have their own stories. And let's be honest, it's not their fault that they were introduced.
