Sensors of all kinds are a key element when it comes to layout automation and there are plenty of videos on YouTube about using infrared sensors, current sensors, and the like. Hall effect sensors on the other hand appear to be the model railroader’s red headed stepchild. And this for valid reasons: They need a magnet for activation and can only switch on and off. At least, so I thought. Until I found this one.
