LCA Mk-1A is an indigenously designed aircraft with more than 70% domestic content. The aircraft is equipped with an active electronically scanning electronically scanning radar (AESA), an advanced short-range air-to-air missile (ASRAAM) which is a combat missile, an electronic warfare (EW) suite and an aerial refueling system, to meet the operational requirements of the IAF (Indian Air Force), Tejas MK1A will have UTTAM AESA radar developed by Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). The Government of India approved the purchase of 73 Tejas Mk.1A single-seat and 10 Mk1 two-seat trainer for approximately $6.24 billion. The engines for these aircraft have already been purchased from U.S. based company General Electric.
HAL Tejas Mark 2, or Medium Weight Fighter (MWF) is an Indian single-engine, canard delta wing, multirole combat aircraft designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in collaboration with Aircraft Research and Design Centre (ARDC) of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force (IAF). It is a further development of the HAL Tejas, with an elongated airframe, close coupled canards, new sensors, and a more powerful engine.
The government has given its nod for developing the next generation variant of the light combat aircraft — LCA Mk-2. The government has sanctioned around ₹10,000 crore for the project, and the LCA Mk-2 is likely to take first flight in two years, setting the stage for its production and subsequent operational availability around 2028.
the Tejas Mk2 will be powered by an upgraded General Electric (GE) F414-INS6 engine, which is more potent than the GE F404 that power the Mk1 and Mk1A variants. The Mk2 will also have a larger weapons payload capacity of 6.5 tons compared to the roughly 4.35 tons payload capacity of the Mk1 and Mk1A.
