The 737-800 is a medium-sized member of the Boeing 737 series (Boeing 737 Next Generation). The current competitor of Boeing 737 series in the market is A320 family. And the 737-800 most direct competitor is A320-200.
With the introduction of A321neo, China Airlines' 737-800 will gradually withdraw from the market. There are two types of early China Airlines 737-800, which are purchased in person and leased. However, all the purchased 737-800s have been retired, and currently only the leased ones are still in operation. At the same time, the leased aircraft will gradually be withdrawn from lease starting in 2022.
China Airlines has withdrawn all 737-800 from all international routes departing from Taipei Taoyuan International Airport and international routes departing from Kaohsiung International Airport to Northeast Asia in 2022.
Now China Airlines only has the routes from Taipei Songshan to Seoul Gimpo, the routes departing from Kaohsiung to cities in China (including Hong Kong), the international routes departing from Kaohsiung to Southeast Asia, all international routes from Taichung Airport (currently only Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh City) and Taiwan domestic lines still use 737-800.
