A gum infection, or periodontitis,
A gum infection, or periodontitis, damages the soft tissue and bone that support the tooth. Without treatment, the alveolar bone around the teeth slowly and progressively dissolves.
Even if the teeth and gums are healthy, good oral hygiene should be practiced on a daily basis to avoid infection.Brushing teeth twice a day and flossing once a day is essential. If there is space between the teeth, an interdental brush is recommended.
Scaling and cleaningwill perform scaling and debridement to clean below the gumline using hand tools or an ultrasonic device that breaks up plaque.
In flap surgery, lifts back the gums, and then removes the tarter. The gums are sutured back into place after the tarter is removed. This procedure removes calculus from deep pockets, or reduces the pocket so it can be more easily cleaned.
