Bowlegs is when the knees are curved out and space between the ankles is decreased. Bowlegs are also called genu varum. Knock-knee is when the knees are close together and space between the ankles is increased. Knock-knee is also called genu valgum. When the child is between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 years, the legs have usually straightened. By 3 to 4 years, the child’s legs typically grow into a knock-knee (valgus) position. Knock knees are fairly common in healthy children under the ages of 6 or 7, and are just a normal part of growth and development. The legs will usually gradually straighten as the child grows, although mild knock knees can last into adulthood. Dr. Mandar Agashe, Consultant - Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon at SRCC Children's Hospital, Mumbai talks in detail about the Bow Legs and Knock Knees. #NarayanaHealth #HealthForAll #AllForHealth #NHCares For video consultation with the doctor, log on to bit.ly/2z7Y0Bd Visit our website www.narayanahealth.org/ to know more about Narayana Health and its facilities.
