Fascinated by the traditional elk hunting in her native village, filmmaker Ane Helga Lykka chose to follow Sigrid, a young woman who has decided to return to her native village after studying music in Oslo. She has been hunting for several years, but remains unsure if she wants to shoot the sacred animal. Elk Forest depicts the hunting culture in Norway through the microcosm of a village, where elk hunting has always been sacred to the people of Engerdal. This tradition, which may raise questions, is not only a ritual perpetuated from generation to generation, but also a way to strengthen the community in the village. Between the daily life of Engerdal and the magnificent landscapes of Norway, the documentary takes us into the world of the hunters, their way of life, their questions and their values.
