Sociological Theory: A Skeleton Key to Max Weber's Characteristics of Bureaucracy (Dan Krier)

Max Weber's famous writings on bureaucracy as an ideal type are foundational to the sociology of capitalism, organizations and corporate management.  This recording reviews Weber's core characteristics of bureaucracy, the office, the official, technical advantages of bureaucratic organization, and the positive and negative consequences of bureaucracy as a dominant form of social organization. The recording describes how the efficiencies and technical superiority of bureaucracy are lost when organizations deviate from the bureaucratic form.  The chapter on bureaucracy can be found in Gerth and Mill's From Max Weber and in Weber's Economy and Society.
