On Thursday, July 4, Hurricane Beryl struck Jamaica with fierce winds and heavy rain, leading to floods and widespread power outages. The storm has left at least 10 people dead, with the death toll expected to rise as communication lines are restored in the affected areas. The Category 4 hurricane's eyewall skirted Jamaica's southern coast, destroying homes and rendering hundreds homeless on the island's southwest side. Emergency workers evacuated residents from flood-prone regions as Beryl moved away from Jamaica early Thursday. The U.S. National Hurricane Center reported that by 1200 GMT, the storm had weakened to a Category 3 hurricane, located 50 miles from Grand Cayman and 385 miles from Tulum, Mexico.
