BMW Alpina B10 4,6 V8 (E34) dyno rear sound

Alpina forces to phase out the popular B10 3.5/1 and b10 Bi- Turbo models as the 3.5 litre straight-six was taken out of production by BMW. The obvious replacement for this iconic BMW engine was the new generation BMW V8. The 4.0 was the first Alpina car, together with B11 4.0 to have a V8 engine under the hood. It was available as both saloon and touring. In March 1994, Alpina introduced the B10 4.6. The price was an impressive- 35 000 D- Mark cheaper than the Bi- Turbo (original price: 146 800 DM) The B10 Engine has similar engine capacity as BMW's original 4.0 V8 from 540i however has been fitted with higher- compression Mahle pistons, modified intake system and reprogrammed Motronic system. The engine produces 315 bhp (from 285 bhp) and torque of 410 Nm (from 400). The B10 4.6 engine is the same as in the B8 (E36 3-series). The engine produces 340 bhp and has a torque 480 Nm. The additional & bhp and 10 Nm are due to less restrictive exhaust system. The gearbox is 6- speed manual or optional Switch- tronic  gearbox. Both the B10 4.0 and 4.6 have the Alpina- Bilstein suspension with gas pressure dampers and progressive springs. The wheels are 17in high with 235 tires at the front and 265 at the rear. This B10 4.0 has the same interior changes as the predecessor B10 3.5/1. A key difference is the steering- wheel. From the outside, the B10 4.0 can be recognized by its new front spoiler and wide E34 V8 kidneys. The B10 4.6 has the same interior and exterior changes as the B10 4.0. For the B10 4.0 Switch- Tronic, Alpina claimed 0-100km/h time 6.5sec and top speed of 265km/h. The B10 4.6 is not as fast as the Bi- Turbo but is still a very fast car. In Auto Motor und Sport's test of the Switch-Tronic version, it accelerated from 0-100km/h in 6.4 seconds, 0-160km/h in 14.2sec., 0-200km/h in 23.2sec and had top speed of 275km/h. Between April 1992 and August 1995 only 46 B10 were built. Between March 1994 and April 1996 a total of only 46 B10 4.6 were built.
