➤ Mark Twain was the pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, an American writer born on November 30, 1835, in Florida, Missouri. He is considered one of the greatest American writers and humorists of all time. Twain grew up in Hannibal, Missouri, a town on the Mississippi River that inspired his most famous novel, "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" (1876).
In addition to his writing, Twain was also an outspoken critic of racism and social injustice. He was a strong advocate for civil rights and was a friend and supporter of abolitionist and activist Frederick Douglass.
Twain passed away on April 21, 1910, in Redding, Connecticut, at the age of 74. Despite his passing, his works continue to be widely read and celebrated today.
