Liu, who plays Mulan, opened up about playing such an iconic character and how she prepared for the action role, saying, “I train myself hard and put Mulan’s spirit in me so I can move like her.”
Niki, the director, said that the original story and film inspired her “to create something new from this amazing material.”
Reflecting on the big revelation in the film that Mulan is a woman, she said, “We are at our most powerful when we are at our most authentic.”
