A core group of repeat youth offenders in Victoria have become a focus of police.
Aggravated burglaries and car theft are becoming a major issue, with some residents taking matters into their own hands.
Some residents in Melbourne’s southeastern Bayside community are hiring private security, installing cameras and even setting up bollards in their personal driveways.
The response is meant as a deterrent to what they are calling an increased rate of youth crime.
Victoria Police say there is a core group of about 290 youth offenders who continue to reoffend with a more extreme group of about 80 criminals who have been arrested more than 10 times in the past 12 months.
