Royal Banquet Dinner with His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte joined his fellow leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Member States, Royalties, and other foreign dignitaries in a royal banquet hosted by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saiffudin Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pangiran Pemacha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam, at the Istana Nurul Iman in Brunei Darussalam.

The royal banquet was held to commemorate the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Accession to the Throne of Sultan Bolkiah.

The attendance of President Duterte demonstrated the strong bilateral relations between the Philippines and Brunei that was established in 1984.

Since the President assumed office, he and Sultan Bolkiah have had an exchange of visits.  President Duterte embarked on a State Visit to Brunei Darussalam last October 2016, and this was reciprocated by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah in a State Visit to the Philippines on April 2017.
