What is gain staging and
What is gain staging and how to do it? Well, in this mixing tutorial I'll teach you how to gain stage and why it will improve your music production. At least for Digital Audio. Analog is different and includes additional things like noise floor, signal to noise ratio, and some other terms that I won't be going over in this video. But don't be intimidated by the digital process, I will be explaining it in-depth in this gain staging walkthrough so you can get better at mixing and even recording audio.
To prevent your audio from clipping or distorting, you'll want to know how to do this! And, it's more than just making sure each individual mixer track is below 0 dB. So, if you're asking yourself "how loud should my mix be?" then you should watch this video.
You do not need to make sure every track is at -18dB to get a good mix, I just wanted to include that information since it is part of what Gain Staging is. It is more practical for when you are recording since you don't want a take to be ruined by clipping.
