I spent the back half of my naval service in the Special Boat Teams (formerly Special Boat "Units") crewing on both a MKV ("Mark 5") and 11 meter RHIB detachments. We joked that it was the best job in the world...on a warm day off Puerto Rico. Generally, working on a coastal team is cold, wet, and windy despite all the cool-guy gear. A six hour transit with a 40 knot blast in your face WILL suck all the warmth out of your body no mater how you're dressed. There were opportunities to play with some cool toys, however, and the boats, while not perfect, were actually pretty robust considering what we put them through. Even with the initial roll out of MCADS (Maritime Craft Aerial Delivery System) the RHIBs we dropped all started right up and drove away...with the exception of the one that partially burned in. Four G-11's (parachutes) and two don't fully inflate means a really hard landing but you can't blame the boat! This is a compilation of my days with the Teams shot with a Sony Handicam so please excuse the SD picture quality:-) It gives a pretty accurate picture of the highlights of what we did, just remember that we'd do it all at night, too, but that makes pretty dull footage. And I left in some shots the Navy would NEVER put in a recruiting film:-) More of my professional videography can be found at www.RestrungLefty.com.
