December tends to be a very busy month for most of us, me included. When I posted my first reaction to The Beatles' "Now and Then", I thought I had my bases covered when it came to the origin of this historic song. It wasn't long before my audience let me know just exactly how wrong I'd gotten a number of things.
When it came to forming the group, I noted they were formed in 1960. Actually, what I would call the "classic" Beatles line-up (John, Paul, George & Ringo) were solid in 1960, but the group actually evolved from Lennon and his previous group, The Quarrymen in the 50's.
Although my mind knew (and I had written down) Liverpool as the place the group began, when I entered the information for my video, my fingers automatically typed "London" for no apparent reason.
Most egregious of all was my casually noting that McCartney was singing lead on the track. Duh! The whole point of the song was to isolate John Lennon's original vocals from the 70's era cassette recording and build the song from there. I also must reiterate...there was no AI used to create or enhance anything. Machine-assisted learning was utilized to extract the original John Lennon vocals with a clean result. That was it!
My original video ended with me contemplating the future of technology as it pertains to using AI to recreate vocals from deceased artists. In hindsight, that commentary has no place anywhere in this reaction video, as that process is simply not what happened with this tune.
There are NO FANS quite like Beatles fans when it comes to knowing the ins and outs of their favorite artists, and I hope they can forgive me for my lack of knowledge and/or sloppy editing on my original version of my reaction video.
Because of these concerns, I've edited my original video into what I'm calling "The Commenters' Cut". I'm hopeful it better represents the Beatles and the song's origins. Thank you!
