Lake District Walks : Holm Fell

Holm Fell, sometimes spelt Holme Fell, stands beside the A593 Ambleside to Coniston Road. It is a wonderful little fell, much admired by Wainwright, yet surprisingly not very busy. The route I've taken is a circular one, starting from Glen Mary National Trust Car Park, and walking past the delightful Yew Tree Farm and along the minor road to Hodge Close quarry to ascend the fell from the north. A mixture of well made paths, rocky tracks, boggy areas and low crags make up the terrain. The top of the fell is a heather clad delight, with stunning views in every direction.
