We have a Chinese de-risking problem: where else can we find a billion consumers?

China is the biggest consumer market in the world.  American and European brands have invested hundreds of billions of dollars here.  We have hired over a million Chinese, to help us sell products to over a billion Chinese.  And our profit margins and growth are faster in China than in any other global market.

When pols and business analysts talk about "de-risking" out of the Chinese market, or push for moving supply and distribution chains to other parts of the world, what is the objective?  The customers are here.  The money is here.  The future growth is here.  

The most successful brands and companies have built deep relationships with Chinese consumers, and the true "risk" is to walk away, and abandon the only high-growth and high-volume market in the world economy.  Their managements may issue statements designed to appease pols, or to fit with the current political moods.  But they're not going anywhere.
