In this video, Rocky & I will be showing you how to TRANSPLANT sweet pepper seedlings & we'll also be HARVESTING sweet peppers, as well.
►How to Transplant Sweet Pepper Seedlings
First the soil has to be soften before transplanting & this can be done in different ways, but in today's video, the soil is softened with a machete. Then the sweet pepper seedlings/suckers are removed from the tray & placed into mainland, which is the soil. This is done by using the fingers from one hand to squeeze the bottom of the tray & the fingers of the other hand to hold the base of the sweet pepper seedling & then gently pull on it. Transplant the sweet pepper seedlings along with the soil 2 - 3 inches into mainland & then use your fingers to press around the soil. This is done to secure the roots of the seedling into the mainland, so that it will continue to thrive. Sometimes when pulling the sucker from the cube, you can end up pulling out the seedling without the soil attached to it & if that happens, just go ahead & embed it into mainland & use your fingers to press around the soil. Plants should be planted about 2 feet away from each other to allow them to have enough space to grow & also to ensure that the land space is properly utilized.
The maturity of Jamaican sweet peppers is based on several factors such as the sweet pepper variety for e.g., the soil type, whether or not it is organically grown & how well the plants are cared for, but under normal circumstances, most sweet peppers take between 60 to 90 days to reach maturity. This would be the days after transplanting, until the plants produce full sized fruits.
Green & red sweet peppers are from the same sweet pepper & this is true for green & yellow sweet peppers, but they have been allowed to mature on the plants longer, hence the colour changes & the longer they stay on the plants, the sweeter they become & the greater the vitamin C content as well.
