I am getting light (deep) swirl marks when grinding, what am I doing wrong?

Often, during the first few
Often, during the first few repairs, new GlassRenu users report producing light concentric circles or swirl marks and dont know what they are doing wrong. There are two possibilities:
1.The surface of the RenuDisk is not completely flat against the glass during the grinding step. This will usually produce swirl marks that look like overlapping concentric arcs that have an opening on one side. The side of the disk that lifted off during grinding is the side of the circle with the open arc.
2.The RenuDisk is being pressed against the glass with too much force. When this happens, the swirls are complete, overlapping circles. Easing up on the pressure applied to the disk should stop the swirls.
