Skoda Yeti Video Description

Skoda Yeti is the manufacturer’s only SUV offering. Its is a great car with Skoda’s quality and ride dynamics. This review highlights following.

Exterior: Yeti is  a nice looking SUV and carries it design cues from the old Yeti. Only this time it looks more for the masses as the older nose didn’t made a lot of sense for many. The front carries the typical Skoda styling with squared-off headlamps, signature Skoda grill with multiple slats. The lower bumper gets a newly designed foglamp housing, a silver central air dam, with a splitter at the bottom, though the design is quite conventional unlike what the outgone car looked like. The sides are pretty much the same except the new set of 16-inch alloys and the paint. Roof could be done in different sort of colors like silver, white, black, etc. The rear now gets Skoda’s signature C-type tail lamps that look nice.

Interiors: The video shows that the basic layout of the interiors remains same as rectangular A/C vents could be noticed on the dashboard, wooden inserts. The low ride seating position doesn’t really make the Yeti fell SUV-ish. The seats get good amount of cushioning and provides better support for under thigh and back. The steering wheel is a fresh three spoked one that could be seen on other Skoda cars as well. Interiors are composed of good quality materials and vital use of chrome elements could be seen. The central console now gets the infotainment system with bluetooth connectivity and the steering column mounted Start/Stop button makes thing easy in start go traffic. The space inside remains unchanged and the boot space stands at 416 litres. On the safety front Yeti gets Traction Control, ESP, 6 airbags, a rigid body shell, ABS, EBD, tyre pressure monitoring, etc.

Engine: Skoda Yeti is offered in two engine options, one is a front wheel drive that makes 110 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque while the 4x4 generates 140PS of max power and a torque of 320 Nm. The former is mated to a 5-speed manual while the later gets a 6-speed manual. The new engine gets a haldex clutch that eliminates the stalling problem of the previous one to some extent. It gets enough grunt and is adequately powered, meat of the power lies in the mid rev range making overtaking a breeze. Moreover, the off-road button when pressed changes the dynamics largely to ease out off-road handling. It is a nimble handling car in bumper to bumper traffic and its compact dimension makes it all the more maneuverable.

Ride and handling: Planted is the word that will best define Yeti’s handling as the vehicle remains flat on mildly uneven surfaces. The ride is pliant and not much of the vibes and road noise filter through the cabin. Though, its gets choppy when at high speeds on uneven surfaces. If you are looking for a dynamic SUV that could do what a sedan can in this price Yeti is a perfect match for that. Its handling is very precise and easy backed by the responsive steering. Especially the 4x4 variant gets loads of grip and traction that can tackle rough conditions to some extent.

Verdict: It is a nice package of performance and fun and despite the price is a bit high it won’t let anybody down with its comfort and that sense of being special.
