IP3 DAG pathway is very important signaling pathway in cell signaling. Like cAMP pathway it also involves the functioning of GPCR. Following the ligand binding activation of GPCR, the alpha subunit of trimeric g-protein detatches from both trineri G protein and the receptor and then goes to bind the effector protein, here the effector molecule is the PLC  or the phospho lipase C enzyme.  The activated PLC acts on PIP2 and converts it tk two secondary messengers knkwn as IP3 nad DAG. DAG being a lipophilic molecule stays in the membrane and IP3 being a poloar molecule diffuses and bind to the Calcium channel present on the ER membrane and the calcium ions are released into the cytoplasm where the bind to the PKC and recruit the enzyme to the membrane. PKC on membrane is attacked by DAG and becomes active.
