In this video I (Abraham Darwish) talk about the rise of dictators in Europe post-WWI and this was a time period that took place between 1919 - 1939. The main reason behind dictators was nationalism. I talk about how Adolf Hitler and Mussolini used nationalism to encourage an authoritarian rule. I speak of the Soviet Unions advance and how they became the 2nd largest industrial nation.
The Versailles Treaty put Germany in a bad situation and the people were sad because it disgraced the Germans and by 1923, 6 years before the great depression, the German  Mark was so weak that 5 million German Marks was equal to a penny! Not only that, The Versailles Treaty was so unjust it blamed Germany for starting the war and forced Germany to pay reparations.
Stalin took control of all of the farms and did something called Collectivization. Stalin eliminated anyone who threatened his power.
In 1921, Mussolini established the Fascist Party. Mussolini called himself "IL Duce" which means the leader. Hitler proved to be a powerful speaker and organizer and quickly became the party's leader.  Calling himself Der Fuehrer - "the leader" -- he promised to bring Germany out of chaos.
