The ongoing war and Kyiv’s need for weaponry to battle the Russian invasion are likely to pave the way for the production of arms in Ukraine. France and Germany, Kyiv’s European allies, have agreed to set up local shops in Ukraine for arms maintenance.
Analysts call it the first step towards manufacturing weapons in the war-torn country.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky opened Kyiv's first International Defence Industries Forum in a bid to attract more arms makers to Ukraine. Ukraine has depended heavily on Western aid since Russia invaded the country in February 2022. However, analysts said Kyiv was increasingly seeking to bolster its domestic arms industry amid fears that support from its allies may waver.
