I'm still searching for the perfect breech-loading NERF blaster to fill that hole in my heart. I thought the NERF Elite Shellstrike would scratch that itch, but it's low modability made it a fun toy more than a proper foam armament. There's been a few different answers to a Spring Thunder shell using pistol in the hobby, but I think the Breaking Wind is the best answer yet. It's ingenious design allows you to effortless eject shells with one hand, meaning it's super quick to re-load and fire; and it can fire nearly everything. Elite, MEGA, Rival, BOOMCo, and even has options for a long-range barrel upgrade... it's basically perfect, but it still needs another add-on or two. Demolisher Rockets, anyone?
