Our diploma and degree programs provide a thorough introduction to the principles of filmmaking, so let's get started with camera skills. You'll become acquainted with a variety of shots. Establishing shots set the scene, while mid- and wide-angle shots bring the viewer closer to the subject. Close-ups are used to draw attention to a person's face or an important object, and medium close-ups allow you to decide how much of the audience should be focused on the subject. Low-angle views are used to portray force and authority, whereas high-angle shots are used to make objects look small and vulnerable.
Another important aspect of filmmaking is editing, and you'll learn about jump cuts, which are sudden cuts used in horror films to generate tension, and match cuts, which are used to transition between two views. You'll also learn about color grading, which impacts the film's ambiance, and sound, which necessitates the use of microphones such as lavalier shotguns and condenser mics.
Finally, you'll understand lighting, including high-key lighting, voice key fill, and edge lights to create even illumination.
