2001 comedy Bubble Boy Jake Gyllenhaal leads. Jimmy Livingston (Gyllenhaal), a 19-year-old boy with severe immunodeficiency, has lived in a germ-free plastic bubble since birth. Jimmy travels to Niagara Falls alone after his mother dies.
Jimmy’s journey is facilitated by George (Swoosie Kurtz), an eccentric but kind-hearted woman who works at a local gas station and is willing to look after him. George’s friend, Chuck (John Carroll Lynch), is a construction worker who drives them around. During the trip, Jimmy meets a variety of people, including a biker gang, a group of nudists, and a religious cult. He eventually makes it to Niagara Falls and, after a few mishaps, manages to get out of the bubble temporarily.
At Niagara Falls, Jimmy meets a girl named Chaya (played by Mary Shelton), and the two quickly fall in love. Chaya helps Jimmy face his fears, and eventually he is able to break out of the bubble for good.
