Today I thought I'd talk about my Black Country accent and how it affects university and relationships (especially through code-switching). The Black Country is generally the industrial area surrounding Birmingham in England, and people often perceive our accent to be ugly. It also carries the unfortunate stereotypes (along with the Brummie accent) that we are lazy and uneducated.

I did English Language at A-Level, and it got me really interested in linguistics- especially languages and accents. So maybe this will be of interest to other English Language students :-)

I think Eve Bennett is also from the Black Country area, so definitely check her channel out!
Alicedoesphysics is also from the West Midlands so check out her channel for more midlander goodness 😄
