You know, in today’s world of smartphones and metaverses, it’s almost comical to imagine that there was a time when people actually believed in the occult. Now we’re going to patiently wait for the ghost of Solomon to smite us for calling him a demon. But this ancient Abrahamic figure isn’t just renowned for being one of the wealthiest kings of years lost to the sands of time or having the favor of Yahweh Himself. As time progressed, his legacy regressed, shall we say, and Solomon came to be associated with the occult and demonology. Fans of the Ari Aster film Hereditary will recognize King Paimon; the tongue-clicking, wig-splitting demon King of Hell who terrorizes the Graham Family. Paimon is part of a pantheon of 72 demons named in the infamous grimoire known as The Lesser Key of Solomon; from the pages of which originates the entity that has, and we don’t say this lightly, created Batman and his entire mythos. Barbatos might have only broken into the mainstream DC Universe in recent years with Scott Snyder’s Dark Nights: Metal series, but the fact of the matter is, that this ancient Bat-God is responsible for everything that happened in Bruce Wayne’s life; including the fact that he even became Batman in the first place. Who is this ancient creature inspired by actual occult mythology? What is his purpose in the vast & colorful expanse of the DC Multiverse? And why is he obsessed with using Batman? We’ll answer all that and more, in this video. This is Barbatos, The Bat God’s Origins – Explored.
