"I was displaced to Rafah and then after Rafah I was displaced to the regional camp in Khan Younis. We have been in the regional camp for nearly 20 days and we have been cautious. Yesterday at 7:30 in the evening, suddenly we witnessed a bombardment from warplanes and tanks. It was worse than doomsday. People were crushed and we walked over dead bodies, the wounded and over the martyrs. It was beyond imagination. My sister-in-law was martyred, my neighbor was martyred too, and my neighbors were torn to pieces. Injuries beyond imagination and it was very scary."

"The sound of shooting was very intense and then everyone started running not knowing where they were going. Those who went to the right were faced by a tank that belongs to the Jews (Israelis). Then suddenly we saw a tank over the hill. There is a hill close to us so it (tank) started shelling randomly. I started seeing things flying in the air, others running away. Then I looked for the children who were screaming and running after me."

STORYLINE:
Israeli strikes and shelling in southern Gaza Strip on Thursday killed at least seven people and wounded others, hospital officials and witnesses said.

A funeral was held Friday for the victims, whose bodies were taken to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis during the night, the officials added.

Family members wept while others detailed the overnight strikes in an area between Rafah and Khan Younis that they said forced them to flee under the attack.

"People were crushed and we walked over dead bodies, the wounded and over the martyrs," Zahed Abu Jarad, one of the survivors.

Israel launched the war in Gaza after Hamas’ October 7 attack, in which militants stormed into southern Israel, killed some 1,200 people — mostly civilians — and abducted about 250.

Since then, Israeli ground offensives and bombardments have killed more than 37,600 people in Gaza, according to the territory’s Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between combatants and civilians in its count.
