Give Me Shelter My Old Friend

Old Friends is a non-profit Thoroughbred Retirement Center in Georgetown, KY that cares for more than 145 horses across three states, many of them stallions whose racing and/or breeding career came to an end. As “Horse Racing's Living History Museum”, we also attract nearly 20,000 visitors annually.

Old Friends has expanded and acquired more acreage, allowing us to provide a safe retirement for more Thoroughbreds in the coming years.  But our expansion is not complete without run-in sheds in our fields. A run-in shed can provide shelter from not only the storms but also blistering sun, dangerous hail, and high winds, which can be life threatening to horses.

Our goal is to build 25 sheds, some of which will be doubled in size. Donations can be made in any amount toward our “Give Me Shelter, My Old Friend” campaign. However, an individual, a business or a group can also choose to sponsor a single shed for $2,000 or a double shed for $4,000 and be recognized with their name on a plaque on the paddock fence. Most importantly, you will forever have our deepest gratitude for helping our deserving horses. Every journey starts with a single step and every single dollar brings us closer to our finish line.
