This Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 36 has a very cool understated blue pattern on the dial. It was introduced during Watches and Wonders in 2021, and it really shows the expertise Rolex has on dial making.

How much is the Rolex Datejust?
It is available in steel like this one, and a combination of gold and steel. Prices start at 6.700 and goes up to somewhere around 11k, depending on the actual version.

Size
The 36mm case of this model is made out of steel, and it has a white gold bezel. It measures 43.2 lug to lug and its 11.7mm thick.

Movement
Inside ticks the calibre 3235, which is basically a workhorse of a movement, done the typical overachieving Rolex way. This latest generation has a power reserve of 70 hours and is accurate to Rolex’s own superlative chronometer standards of -2/+2 seconds per day. Which is tested very rigorously in Geneva. The movement is also antimagnetic thanks to the high-tech materials used for the escapement and hairspring. In all, Rolex is so confident about this watch it comes standard with a five year guarantee.

#Rolex Datejust
The Rolex Datejust was first introduced in 1945 and it was the first self-winding chronometer to have a date window on the dial. For practical reasons, it also had the fluted bezel that would become its signature. The watch celebrated the fourtieth birthday of the company, hence the name jubilee bracelet that would become another signature. A couple of years later the lens on the glass followed. It was the sort of practical luxury Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf firmly believed in, and the Rolex Datejust has stayed true to that belief.
While some people mistakenly think this is the entrance level Rolex, the Oyster Perpetual Datejust does know what it is. This is original. It’s been that for over 75 years. And it has stayed true to its character. The character Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf has imposed on it.

Why I chose it
This specific version was featured next to nowhere when it was launched, which is a big miss.
When I visited all manufacturing sites of Rolex in Switzerland, especially the dial making was very impressive. The production of a Rolex dial alone requires as much as 60 operations, including adding multiple layers. That’s what gives the dial so much depth, such vibrant colours and such a Fresh Face.
It’s hard to capture on the camera because it’s quite understated but still always around. The pattern goes fantastically well with the signature fluted bezel and jubilee strap and is unlike anything Rolex has ever done. And it really shows the expertise Rolex has on dial making.
