Technical Track and Field presents Shot Putting with the Big "O". This video from 1986 follows Oldfield, the word record holder at the time, as he trains and instructs others on the technique of putting the shot. Multiple interviews with Oldfield are shown in addition to highlights from his career. The back of the DVD case says: "Oldfield is the fellow who introduced bikini briefs and fishnet tank tops to track when he came out of nowhere to make the 1972 Olympic Team. Shot putting has never been the same." - Sports Illustrated As a professional in 1975, Brian Oldfield threw the shot far ... very, very far. He was the first man to throe 73', 74', and 75'. Some track experts compare it to Bob Beamon's 29' long jump leap. Brian is well known for some remarkable quotes. "When God created man, He wanted him to look like me," and "On my worst day I'm still the baddest." To which Olympic pole vaulter Steve Smith responded, "When I grow up I want to be just like you, Brian, so strong, nobody cares how stupid you are." Oldfield was a world class shot putter for 2 decades. He ranked #1 in the U.S. in 1980, 1981, and 1984. He completed in the Munich Olympic Games and won the 1980 U.S. Championship. In 1984, with 3 compression fractures in his back and a torn bicep, he upped the American record in the shot. He competed in several World's Strongest Man competitions, Superstars, and graced the cover of Sports Illustrated. More than just a competitor in the event, Oldfield is a technical pioneer in the rotational style of throwing. He has refined the technique continuously since adopting it in 1973 and today is the foremost expert in the application and teaching of the rotational style. Brian has returned to his hometown, Elgin, IL. To arrange a personal training session, contact him at (847) 622 - XXXX.
