Researchers have finally managed to understand the molecular mechanism in the brain that causes the surgical aesthetic and recreational drug ketamine to function as a rapid antidepressant. Traditional antidepressants work over weeks, creating new neurons, while rapid antidepressants reactivate existing connections. ThePrint’s Sandhya Ramesh explains how these drugs do this.
