Forgive the wind! Something i say quite a lot in my everyday life, but it applies here too - i didn't realise the wind would affect my recording so much.
In case it's covered up at the start:
The sandy beach is artificial, created in the 1920's, a lot of it BY HAND, by physically removing all the boulders and shingle.
The town was tiny, only having 120 houses at the time of Elizabeth 1st, and grew after the arrival of the railways.
And, there was a direct rail track from London down to the platform here, where you could literally step off the train and get on the ferry. Which is what i did on a school trip to Switzerland
