Let's look at how to use Neutron 3 Advanced's all new Mix Assistant balance feature.
Open your DAW and load your stems.
Next, drop an instance of the Relay VST on each channel, as the first plugin in the signal chain and name it appropriately.
Now, I want to point out, some DAWs allow you to add a VST to multiple channels at the same time. However, Ableton Live doesn't. iZotope suggest making a template set with a number of channels already added with Relay on them to speed up the starting process for each new project.
After your done naming all of the instances of Relay, drop the Neutron 3 Advanced mothership onto a channel and hit the Mix Assistant button.
Here we have two options: Track Enhance and Balance.
Track Enhance is the Track Assistant that should be used for single tracks and buses or groups.
We are going to choose balance which will help mix the levels of each of the channels to get us to a nice custom starting point. Check it and hit next.
Here we get some tutorial information. Click "Got it."
Now, we can make sure all of the tracks are listed and finally we can select a Focus for our mix. This track has vocals so it's probably a good idea to choose the Vocal track. We might also select the Intro Vocal as well. We can always change the focus after the analysis is complete.
Click "Begin Listening" and let your track play all the way through. Once your song has finished, click the "Go to Results" button.
Here you can listen back and bypass Neutron's decision. You can also make level adjustments to the 5 main categories of the mix. The Focus, Voice, Bass, Percussion, and Musical elements.
You can also click the "Edit Classifications" button to make sure everything has been placed in the right category.
You can see here that the bass of this track has been categorized as musical, simply switch that and anything else you want.
Also, as I said early, you can choose what's in focus here again. Every change you make will have an effect on the mix, so be sure to be listening and bypassing along the way until you get something that sounds close to what you are looking for. You will want to be as sure as possible, because once you hit Accept, these options will go away.
However, now you can use the Visual Mixer to go further. Drag and Drop the Visual Mixer onto your master channel. From here you can adjust panning, stereo spread and volume levels of all of your tracks to fine tune your mix..
You can also just start with entire process right in the Visual Mixer as well! Whichever method works best for you!
