In Today's video i'm going to Demonstrate How you can draw the structure of curl, how you can shade the curl.Also Which methods is best for Shading Curl so we'll follow two methods;Indentation or without indentation technique so these are the things that we will learn in this hair tutorial.

0:20:18 ⏰ HOW TO DRAW CURL
Before you Start;Set guidelines for the curls. Draw a Long vertical box to have an accurate idea of drawing curl in the box.Think of curls like ribbons and draw then by looking at each curl section and just follow by looking at the refrence photo for defining the more accuracy of your curl sketch.
1:20:06 ⏰ INDENTATION ON PAPER
Identation is a technique applied by indent tool or stylus on paper by impressing grooves into your paper that later drawing skips over and leaves as white lines. So this is a one way to draw the hair by using indenting stylus so then you wont need to create as much highlights as you do without using this.
2:32:03 ⏰ WITHOUT INDENTATION CURL
without indentation now i'm going to shade them. This will give the hair form and depth. Since this is a sketch, you don’t have to do any intensive shading. But, do darken around the ringlets and the underside of the curls. You’ll be surprised just how much life it gives them!
Also try to maintain saturation of shadows and highlights..
3:34:27 ⏰ HOW TO SHADE A CURL OF HAIR
SHADING OVER THE INDENTED CURL
i'm overlaying the Graphite on these indenting lines but just try to make sure that you won't shade in these white indenting lines.Try to follow the graphite strokes in the direction of each of the little section of hair . I'm also looking at the reference photo where the shadows and highlights are going to be so you can see the highlights are tend to be in the middle of each lock of the hair so try to manage the saturation between each curl to make it really pop up and realistic.
SHADING OVER UN-INDENTED CURL
i'm going to shade this curl where i haven't applied any indentation so
i'm going to block in each section of this curl using lines rather than circular motions
because hair is obviously strands of hair so i'm just using these strands to indicate the
direction that the hair is going in and also to make some more defined sections of the hair i'm
applying a bit more pressure for the areas thata bit more shadowed so that now have a clear
view of where the shadows are in the hair.
6:04:27 ⏰ HOW TO ADD SHADOWS
For Shadow's i'm using faber castle Black Pencil for Darken up the more shadowed areas
the shadows towards the outside edge so not in the middle of the locks of the hair
this will create more of that three-dimensional curved look and i'm just going throughout the whole of this curl and doing the same thing just to make it look a bit more contrast and make it pop
PRO TIP : Add some flyaway hairs to help break up the curl to make it look a lot lot more natural.
7:20:23 ⏰ HOW TO CREATE HIGHLIGHTS IN CURL OF HAIR
For Highlights;add some of the highlight by pulling up some graphite from the paper and for this i've cut the edge of an eraser of it diagonally and i'm using it like following the direction where i need to create the highlights.
Highlight's make your curls send out and even make it pop a bit more out the paper and make your curl look really realistic.
