Pt 4 | Portrait Painting with the Model (in sight size) | COMPOSITION - with Moses Hamborg Join us for a full portrait painting from life course! Teaching this course is Moses Hamborg, a portrait painter based in Los Angeles, California and Dakar, Senegal. Born and raised in Southern California he moved to Italy to study drawing and painting. After graduating from the Florence Academy of Art he was awarded the Artist in Residence position. Following his residency he took on portrait commissions in Europe and the US while he furthered his training at Charles H. Cecil Studios. Moses has work in the permanent collections of the New Salem Museum of Art, USA and the Manifattura Tabacchi, Italy. Moses was awarded a Certificate of Excellence from the Portrait Society of America in 2019 and exhibited in the BP Portrait Award 2020 at the National Portrait Gallery, London. In 2021, after spending time painting in Freetown, Sierra Leone, he was accepted into Kehinde Wiley's artist residency, Black Rock Senegal and exhibited with the 14th DAK'ART Biennale in 2022. This is from PART 1 (composition) of a "portrait painting from life" course where we will learn everything about portrait painting in an academic style as taught in the classical atelier system. We will cover how to set up your studio, canvas, how to make a transfer drawing and how to paint a portrait from first marks to finished masterpiece. Moses Hamborg is an incredible oil painter and it was so fun to film this with him.
